6. Daniel HOCKEY prob b 1774 South Cadbury, Somerset, England s/o James HOCKEY/Rose FRAMPTON. (Rev Hannam found in the 1851 UK Census that Daniel HOCKEY was aged 76 yrs, a butcher, native of South Cadbury. Rev Hannam did not find Daniel HOCKEY in Baptismal Registers for South Cadbury. He also checked the parishes of Evercreech, Ditcheat, Pilton, Pylle, Cucklington, Charlton Mackrell and Butleigh. His explanation was that it was a common practice not to enter baptisms in the register at the time, but a note was made on paper. At the end of the year all the baptisms and burials would be entered in the register and a copy made to be forwarded to the Bishop. This meant that if a piece of paper was mislaid a baptism could be overlooked entirely.) Cause of death: Influenza, general debility, old age. Informant: Samuel HOCKEY, Store Keeper of Geelong, son, present at death. Buried 26 Aug 1860 Geelong West Cemetery, Alfred TREVENA, Undertaker. Born Somerset, England, 6 years in Victoria, married Somerset, England at about 25 years of age to Ann REX. Issue: Matilda, Ann, Jane, James Daniel, Samuel, Eliza, William, Charlotte, Charles.
