William HOCKEY chr 7 Nov 1742 Horsington s/o John HOCKEY [IGI Batch Number C019382 extracted from parish records] The early HOCKEY information I have was based on research by the Rev DC Hannam 4 Eldon Bank, Eldon, Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, England DL14 8DX. The Rev Hannam was a senior citizen in 1984 and travelled 300 miles for his annual holiday visits to the Somerset Record Office in Taunton. He made notes from parish registers and he said that the 1981 IGI was no help to him at all because it missed most of the parishes around Horsington. Within 10 miles of Horsington there are about 100 parishes and the same is true for Evercreech. He had provisionally traced his own HANNAM family back to 1505 in Horsington. The first mention of a Hannam in Horsington was in 1321. I have a faint copy of the pedigree and a chart he made of several HANNAM-HOCKEY connections. I was able to make some additions using the 1984 IGI. However, any 'possibles' remain tentative because there were so many gaps in the IGI at that time. It was Sue Fullarton who corresponded with the Rev Hannam. My Hockey folders contain documents and handwritten data sheets from the 1980s which were (alas!) pre-computer. In 2003, correspondence with Mike Pendleton in Canada and Martin Hockey in the USA prompted me to begin entering the information as web pages to share with them. In March 2011 Patricia Westwood in England sent me a well-researched, comprehensive HOCKEY family tree beginning in the 1600s in the Parish of Cucklington, Somerset, England. This was accompanied by her files of the first five generations (so far) as well as documents and photographs. I very much appreciate her generosity in sharing her information with me and would like to acknowledge her excellent work.
