The story is that William Edward QUICK had success as a miner on the Ballarat goldfields and went back for a Cornish bride. He married his cousin Mary Sandow WASLEY on 4 May 1856 at Saint Ives, Cornwall, England. Their mothers were SANDOW sisters.

Mary Sandow WASLEY was born 25 Apr 1838, St Ives, Cornwall, England, d/o George WASLEY and Candace nee SANDOW [838]

Under Entry No. 868 on the Passenger List of the immigrant ship Dragoon were WT LUKEY, Miner 22 yrs; James SANDER, Miner 20 yrs; William QUICK, Miner, (recorded as) 32 yrs (but should be 22 yrs); and Mary QUICK, wife aged 19 yrs.
Also on this ship under Entry No. 815 were Joseph WASLEY, Labourer 24 yrs; John WASLEY, Labourer 33 yrs; and Elisha WASLEY, Labourer 18 yrs. These were not siblings of Mary, but very likely relatives. Information from Andrea Wasley in the USA suggests that these were brothers. Their siblings were Henry, William, Stephen and Elizabeth. In the 1841 and 1851 British Censuses their mother was Grace Wasley, a widow of Kea, Cornwall.
An American ship of 1433/1384 tons, 5234 superficial feet, Master JB WESTON, Agents Campbell Brothers & Co., the Dragoon sailed from Liverpool on 26 May 1857 at 11.00pm with 348 unassisted immigrants. [Unassisted Immigration to Victoria 1852-1923]
The arrival of the Dragoon at Hobson's Bay, Melbourne on 23 Aug 1857 was reported in The Age and The Argus newspapers on 29 Aug 1857. There was also a brief account of the voyage, the cargo and the cabin passengers.

August 23 - Dragoon, American ship, 1438 tons, GB Weston, from Liverpool 26th May. Passengers - cabin 14 and 370 in intermediate and steerage. Campbell Brothers and Co., agents.
The Age, Melbourne, Sat 29 Aug 1857 reported:
THE DRAGOON - This vessel arrived in Hobson's Bay yesterday with very nearly 400 passengers. She left Liverpool on the 26th of May at 11 pm, and from the 8th June to 11th of same month, was in company with the Ben Nevis, for this port, in lat. 36° N, and long. 17° W. On the 27th of July, in lat. 39° 54' S and long. 25° 07' W, during a heavy squall, was struck by lightning, which started one of the deck planks, entered the cabin, and went out by the skylight window, doing, no further injury. The framework of skylight and combings are much scorched by it.

William Edward QUICK died 9 Jul 1863 aged 28 yrs at Happy Valley (nr Linton) bp Cornwall s/o Nathaniel Wi(lliams) QUICK/Susan - [Vic 6670] His burial was recorded on 10 Jul 1863 at the Linton Cemetery and two days later at Ballarat.

William Edward Nathaniel QUICK, Gardener, Residence: Bond Street, Ballarat purchased the grave [WN/1/1R2] in the Ballarat Old Cemetery on 15 May 1894 and would have erected the headstone on the grave of his parents and brother.
