Mary Jane SHOMACK aged 19 yrs of Long Point bp Melbourne d/o Amos SHOMACK, a Storekeeper and Mary SHANE, was married on 14 August 1869 at Long Point, Creswick by Robert Kennedy, Presbyterian Minister of Creswick to James BEECHLEY aged 29 yrs, a Labourer at Ascot, birthplace Tasmania s/o of James BEECHLEY, a farmer and Sarah SPINKS.
The witnesses to the marriage were Mary Jane's mother who signed her name as Mary SHOEMACK and James RENKIN. James BEECHLEY signed his name as James BEACHLEY.

Eva (also Evan) Stella BEAVEN (also BEAVERN) bp Charlton West m2. 1907 Hugh BAILLIE bp Tayjil (Tanjil) [Vic 586, 586R] Mt Tanjil and the Tanjil River are in very mountainous country east of Mt Baw Baw in Gippsland. The area was settled by pioneer prospectors during the Victorian Goldrush. At the time of her second marriage Eva would have been about 26 years old.

From the Australian War Memorial: 227 Corporal Hugh BAILLIE of Symmons Hotel, Numurkah, Victoria enlisted at Seymour in the Australia Military Force on 24 Aug 1914 with the 4th Light Horse Regiment, aged 38 yrs, DOB was 14 Jun 1876 (understated by 3 yrs, in fact was 41 yrs), Miner, Presbyterian, (Single, NOK Mother Mary Phillipa IRWIN of 36 Essex Street Prahran on 28 Jun 1917), this was crossed out, then: Married, NOK Mrs Eva Stella BAILLIE, wife, of 29 Surrey Road South Yarra. His certificate of medical examination records that Hugh was 5 ft 9 ins and weighed 154 lbs. He had blue eyes and fair hair and a dark (tanned) complexion. Cpl Hugh BAILLIE, Shoeing-Smith/Farrier, embarked at Melbourne on HMAT Wiltshire on 19 Oct 1914 for overseas service as an ANZAC in Egypt and France. He was medically returned to Australia 17 Jul 1917 on HT Ayreshire having left Plymouth England on 23 May 1917. A record of his medical examination for discharge dated 5 Jun 1918 shows that he was married with 2 children and that he was living apart and that his wife's whereabouts were unknown. His address was the Bull & Mouth Hotel, Bourke Street, Melbourne. His mother, Mrs Mary P IRWIN, had remarried and was living in Moreland Road East Brunswick Victoria. His age was stated to be 42 (when in fact he would have been 45). His height was measured at 5 ft 8 1/2 ins and his weight was 130 lbs (a loss of 24 lbs). He had lost his tan and his blonde hair was now brown. He had suffered cardiac problems, bronchitis, pneumonia and senility (shell shock) and was invalided from France with acute rheumatic pains (Myaglia). He was finally discharged on 6 Sep 1918 as permanently unfit due to rheumatism aggravated by senility. The war had not been kind to his health.
A War Pension statement dated 24 Aug 1917 shows that Hugh and Eva BAILLIE were living together at 197 Cubitt Street, Richmond. His pension was 68/- and hers was 34/- per fortnight. Also at this address was a stepson of Hugh BAILLIE, Bernice V BEVAN who was granted a pension of 20/- and a daughter Eva S BAILLIE was granted 15/-.
A war pension statement dated 2 Nov 1917 gives his mother's address as Mary Phillipa IRWIN, 571 Lygon Street, Extension East.
In a Statutory Declaration stamped 20 May 1931 and 1 Jun 1931 Hugh BAILLIE of 29 Imperial Avenue, Caulfield wrote that I am not quite sure but believe it (my original discharge document) was lost during my employment with a survey party in the Northern Territory in a period of three years.
