The father of these five children, John SPARK Snr, died in Scotland in 1847. Their widowed mother Ann married Edward MANGAN in 1849. This couple and the five children were listed as MANNION on the passenger list of the Ticonderoga which arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in 1852. The family settled in a rural area north of Ballarat and three MANGAN step children were born.
