From 1860 to 1865 a George SHOEMACK/SHOMACK/SHUMACK appears in extracts from the Creswick & Clunes Avertiser and in the Creswick Court Registers. In 1860 he was recovering costs of fencing materials he had sold and from mid-1861 he was a miner. In an extract from January 1862 he was in the Creswick Warden's Court as the secretary of two mining companies. It is likely that he was the brother of Amos SHOMACK who was also on the Creswick goldfields at this time.

CRESWICK WARDEN'S COURT Tuesday 15 Sep 1863
(Before CC DOWLING, Esq., Warden)
John TAIT and party v CARTER and party
Application for a water race at Cobbler's Gully. Mr BURTON for plaintiffs, Mr McPARLAND for the defendants.
John TAIT, miner, sworn - Plaintiffs finished a race in Cobbler's Gully about the the end of May or beginning of June; they did not use it and abandoned it. They went 200 yards higher up. I took possession about the end of June. They never gave me notice until last Friday. CARTER spoke to me after I made the application, and told me he wanted possession of the race again.
John TOWLER sworn - Know the race cut by CARTER about three months ago. Live close by. TAIT has been in occupation since. After they had finished, SHOEMACK and ANTONIO said that the race would not answer their purpose, and left it.
John ROYCRAFT sworn - Produce the mining register. Number 238, dam and race at Cobbler's Gully, was registered on 19th June 1863, by LR CARTER, CH REIS, and George FRAZER. On the 15th July FRAZER transferred to ANTONIO, and on the 13th July REIS to SHOEMACK. On the 19th June LR CARTER applied to have the race and claim No. 1364 protested. The claim was reserved on the 18th July. The race is not under protection.
LR CARTER sworn - Know the race in question. We never gave it up. It was not abandoned. I cut nearly 1000 feet of it. ANTONIO and SHOEMACK gave TAIT leave to use the storm water, because he was hard up. The dam is in connection with the waterright. (Plan produced.) I was cutting the race from Opossum Gully three days previous to TAIT making the application. The race was only finished yesterday. We had it in reserve for a month, and subsequently renewed it. We have only two sluice heads. I was at work on the race on the 7th, 8th, and 9th September.
George SHOEMACK and Francisco ANTONIO confirmed the evidence of the previous witness, and added that TAIT about six weeks ago received permission to use the storm water until they (the defendants) would use it themselves.
The Warden intimated that as, according to evidence, defendants had been at work at the water race until yesterday, they did not require protection. He found that the race was not abandoned, and refused the application. £2 2s costs to be paid by applicants.
Shoemack and party was mentioned in the Mining News for Grahams Hill.
